Staff at Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa have always had guests’ welfare at heart – but now we’ve gone a step further and are aiming to save lives, too.
A defibrillator has just been installed at the luxury four-star hotel in Newmarket and while employees have never needed to use one before Noel Byrne, Chief Executive, said the safety of the hotel’s guests and visitors is of paramount importance.
The device, which emits an electrical charge to a heart-attack victim via a hand-held paddle in a bid to restart the heart, is one of only a handful in the town and was a £2,000 investment.
Mr Byrne said: “We are told by The Community Heartbeat Trust that a defibrillator can boost a heart-attack victim’s survival by 50 per cent, compared to 5 per cent with CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) alone.
“It’s of the utmost importance to us to ensure people who visit the hotel receive the best care should an unfortunate cardiac incident occur.”
This week a team of staff received training from members of the St John Ambulance on how to use the device.
The other defibrillators in the town are located at Newmarket Leisure Centre, Ditton Lodge Community Primary School and Studlands Park Sports & Social Club.
The Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa has 77 stylish guest rooms, is set in three acres of secluded rose gardens and has a luxury onsite £5.5m Spa. It is just a short distance from Newmarket’s famous paddocks and training stables.
