Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa has been commended for going greener in a bid to help protect the environment – achieving a Silver Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme in 2014.
The only four-star hotel in Newmarket has retained the accreditation again and improved its rating to 76%, an increase of 7 per cent.
The organisation’s assessor looked at all sectors of the hotel’s business to ensure their processes were environmentally friendly and said: “Highlights from the visit included use of LEDs, good maintenance systems, very good visitor information, dedication to using local produce and some very good supplier screening.
“The hotel has progressed considerably on the programme, establishing itself as a strong sustainable business.”
Noel Byrne, Chief Executive of the hotel, which recently received an upgrade to its status from 4 black AA stars to 4 Red AA stars, one of only 67 hotels nationally that enjoy the accolade, said: “While we are focused on ensuring our guests always experience a top-class service, the team here also aims to ensure that we continue to help safeguard the environment, too. It is great news that their efforts have been rewarded in this way.”
The Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa has 77 stylish guest rooms, is set in three acres of secluded rose gardens and has a luxury onsite £5.5m Spa. It is just a short distance from Newmarket’s famous paddocks and training stables.
