Excellent customer service, outstanding facilities and high levels of repeat business have all helped Bedford Lodge Hotel in Newmarket secure a place in the finals of this year’s Suffolk Tourism Awards.
The four-star hotel in Bury Road has been shortlisted in the Best Large Hotel category, with the winners due to be announced at a black tie ceremony in Trinity Park in Ipswichnext Thursday.
General Manager Noel Byrne said the news had come at an exciting time for the hotel. Bought by Review Hotels last year, Bedford Lodge has just announced a £1.5 million expansion programme which includes the construction of 21 new bedrooms. This will lead to at least 25 new jobs for the Newmarket area.
He said: “We are extremely pleased that we have been recognised by the judging panel of the Suffolk Tourism Awards. Bedford Lodge was crowned the county’s Hotel of the Year in 2007 and we hope to emulate that success this year.”
Judges of the awards were impressed with Bedford Lodge’s success as a leisure venue, with 81 per cent of its 55 luxury rooms filled over the last year, more than half of which was repeat business.
Mr Byrne added: “We are also very popular for our wedding and conference facilities, plus our health club The Edge. Our two AA Rosette restaurant The Orangery is also a big draw for us, with our chef James Fairchild committed to ensuring he uses as much local produce as possible.”
Bedford Lodge Hotel is a former hunting lodge which was built for the Duke of Bedford in the 18th century. A hotel since the 1940s, the Georgian building is Newmarket’s only four star hotel and is nestled in three acres of secluded rose gardens.
