Tour de France 2014 Grand Départ

2014 Tour de France coming to Cambridge and Essex

It was recently announced that the opening stage (or Grand Départ) of the Tour De France 2014 will begin in England and pass through Cambridge and beautiful Suffolk on the stage from Cambridge to London, which brings it within touching distance of the Bedford Lodge Hotel and Spa when it passes through Great Shelford, Duxford and Sawston.

The 101st edition of the Tour de France will begin in Leeds on July 5th.  We already know that the first phases of the race will centre around Yorkshire, including Harrogate and Sheffield, then heading south to Cambridge and London - this really will be an exciting opening to the world famous tour - as Great Britain's Chris Froome and Sir Bradley Wiggins both aim to kick-start their campaigns with good times in the challenging opening stage.

The race comes to Cambridge on Monday 7th July for a 170km ride to London

Out of the city the route heads south via Great Shelford, Great Chesterton, Saffron Walden and Finchingfield before arriving at Braintree and crossing the A120.

The tour then heads towards picturesque Felsted, before heading south towards Chelmsford and Writtle then on to London for the finale.
