Discover Newmarket

Discover Newmarket is the central point for Tourist Information and is the town’s official Tour Guide. They offer visitors a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at racing’s headquarters to see the equine stars at work and learn about the fascinating history, heritage and culture of the town. Their expert guides deliver tours for groups and individuals which can be organised for as little or as long as you want. They also run their most popular tours on set dates throughout the year which anyone can book onto. For a full list of Discover Newmarket’s tour offerings, click here.

Tattersalls

Tattersalls is only a short distance from the hotel and is Europe’s largest bloodstock auctioneers, and the world’s oldest. They sell over 5,000 thoroughbreds a year.

The National Stud

The National Stud is a fantastic showcase for British thoroughbred breeding. It comprises over 500 acres of prime pastureland on the edge of Newmarket. It’s facilities include accommodation for eight stallions and up to 200 mares in nine separate yards.

What you see will depend on the time of year, but each tour takes in the superb Stallion Unit, with an opportunity to view the stallions in residence, plus the Foaling Unit and Nursery Yards. You will see mares and foals in their paddocks and younger visitors will be delighted by Treacle the resident miniature Shetland pony.

National Horseracing Museum

The museum, located in Palace Street, tells the story of the people and horses involved in racing from its Royal origins to Lester Piggott, Frankie Dettori, AP McCoy and other modern heroes. The venue is also home to the flagship yard of the Retraining of Racehorses charity with two demonstrations each day highlighting the work done to care for horses after their careers.
